The location is also conventional of a horror film because there are not many places she can hide from the silhouette in. The location also makes the woman more vulnerable because it is isolated and she is alone in her flat. This makes the short film scarier on a personal level as the audience feel like they are there. I believe that the use of a domestic location means that the audience can associate with the woman on a wider scale, other than if she was to be in an exotic location where the audience had never been before. There is only one location throughout the whole of the short film, which is the woman’s flat. However the silhouette within the short film is a woman which subverts the ‘vulnerable’ stereotype associated with women which is interesting because the unknown character holds the power. Also, the woman is alone in her flat which makes her more defenceless as a character. Firstly, the protagonist is a woman which automatically makes her more vulnerable to the unknown character. What happens at the end of the short film? Does she die?Īs soon as the short film begins the audience know from the conventional horror stereotypes that the short film is going to be a horror.Has she always been followed by the silhouette and only just realised?.Why is the woman being followed by the silhouette?.There are many displayed within the film. As she thinks she is clear from the woman she relaxes until she sees that the woman is beside her bedside light. Once she believes that the silhouette has left, she releases the duvet and looks around her room. As she becomes really scared she pulls the duvet over her head so she cannot see the rest of her bedroom. Her bedroom is badly lit and when she realises this she tries to turn the light on, however the light does not turn on. She pulls the duvet towards her head as a form of security however she is not safe. Whilst she tries to ignore the fact that there is a woman in her house she convinces herself that the silhouette is not real and attempts to go to sleep. The more she turns the light off, the woman gets closer behind her. Once spooked, she flickers the light on and off to check the woman is still there. ![]() An innocent woman is walking around her house when she notices a silhouette of a woman in the corner of her eye once she turns the light out. ‘Lights out’ is a short horror film which consists of the stereotypical conventions of horror films. ![]()
